THE DINOSAUR TRAIN....................

ALL ABOARD!!!!
WE'RE GONNA RIDE....RIDE....RIDE....THE DINOSAUR TRAIN!The Dinosaur Train arrived at Butterfield Canyon Elementary this morning at 9:45 am. There were lots of cheers and squeals and giggles of delight! Here is Silas with Dr. Scott, the Paleontologist. Si was so excited to meet him that he ran right up to him and practically threw his arms around him. He was jabbering a hundred miles an hour and showed him his Dinosaur sounds app on my iphone. Dr. Scott was impressed!
I learned a few things myself today. For instance, the picture below is what an acutal Velocirapotor looks like. It was more of a flying/walking bird and it was actually only 3 ft. not the 6ft+ it was portrayed as in Jurassic Park.
Dr. Scott was very nice and very fun for the kids to listen to. He works for he Museum of Ancient Life in SLC and he and his team have actually found three new species of Dinosaurs in southern Utah. One of which is the first in the world to be found with fossilized skin! Two of them are a type of Triceratops, they are called Utahceratop and Cosmosceratop (this one has 15 horns on it's head). I think I might have enjoyed the presentation as much or more than my boys.
And what would the Dinosaur train be without Buddy! Silas was jumping up and down and calling him by name.
Here is a pic of Logan with Buddy in the background.
Thank you for sharing your time with us Dr. Scott! We'll tune in next time.

CLONE WARS: BISQUICK

BISQUICK
I love Bisquick. It's all business! When I'm in a hurry, or let's face it....just plain lazy, it's my best friend. It can be used for a plethora of things, believe me. From cakes, cookies, breads, meals, on and on and on. Just Google Bisquick and you'll see the thousands of possibilities, including wall putty......kidding on the last one...don't choke.

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS...........

Jason was washing dishes and noticed that one of my favorite aluminum cake pans had been punctured somehow. He brought the pan over to me so I could see and Silas was sitting on my lap. I said, "Oh no, my favorite pan." Silas says, "Oh well, guess it can be an antique now, huh mom!"

Logan walked up to Jason and I one morning after breakfast and said, "I know how to make Ohs cereal now. It's just honey and crackers. They show the recipe on the box. Can we make some?"

We were driving to Kemmerer to see Talon and Nanna Sharyn was sitting by Silas and they were having a little chat. Silas says to her, "I'm going to mawwy my mom when I gwow up." Nanna said, "I don't think your daddy will like that, you might have some competition Si." Silas shrugged and said, "I'll mawwy hoe when I'm all gwown up and she's bown again, and she will be so hot!" Jason was laughing out loud by now and he said, "I think Mom's hot too Si!"

We were getting ready to leave one evening and Silas was not being very cooperative about getting his shoes, socks and coat on. Jason had given him several warnings so by the third time he was asked to get ready and he didn't listen he was put on restriction. He started crying, and was very upset. Jason loaded the boys into the van, and I hopped in a we headed on our way. A few minutes down the road Silas says, "Mom, I tink I hode my heawt bwaking. I'm so sad. Daddy bwoke my heawt alweady." I was silently laughing while Jason asked him, "Do you need a new one?" and Silas replied "No, deres not any moe heawts. I'm gonna haf to trow my heawt away!"

Silas came downstairs with the dolls we have for when the nieces come to visit. He says, "Mom I have two babies, dey came from my belly. But I need to feed dem and I can't find dere bottle and my babies are gonna get skinny!" LOL

THAT'S ONE LUCKY GLOVE!

A month ago Jason received free tickets to watch the Redrocks Gymnastic team at the U. I wasn't feeling quite up to a big crowd that day (feeling pregnant I guess) so he decided to take the boys without me. Dad + 2 kids - mom = chaos. This is never a great idea, but I really needed some R&R. I packed the diaper bag with snacks, drinks, treats, hats, scarves, gloves...the whole she-bang! As they were leaving I mentioned to Jason to PLEASE watch Silas and make sure that he doesn't leave his gloves behind, or drop them because they are special thermal gloves, extra long, and extremely hard to find...not to mention VERY expensive. After 2 1/2 hours of peace and quite they all returned. The kids still breathing, and Jason still had hair! The first thing Jason says to me is "Don't be mad....but Si lost a glove". Really! "Sigh" R-E-A-L-L-Y!! Well fast forward to last night and once again we were all up at the Huntsman Center to see the Redrocks, this time with 3 in-laws and 4 nieces and nephews in tow. We were in quite a hurry because we were running late so we were hustling around weaving in and out of hundreds of people swarming the sidewalk. We got caught at the street light waiting to cross and as we were standing there Jason happened to look down, and wouldn't you know he found Silas' glove! Yes, the glove he lost 4 weeks ago.....4 weeks of snow, rain, mud and muck, crowds of people, street sweepers, groundsmen....and yet it was still there, like it had been waiting all this time to be taken home. Is that crazy or what! Maybe we should head to Vegas....luck like this happens once in a lifetime. Maybe it will come in three's and we have 2 more to cash in on. I'll just keep thinking that maybe I have a filthy rich relative somewhere who needs to unload a couple million.

WHY GOD MADE MOMS

WHY GOD MADE MOMS

Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?

1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

2. Mostly to clean the house.

3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.

2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.

3. God made my mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.

2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

1. We're related.

2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mom like me.

What kind of a little girl was your mom?

1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.

2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.

3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?

1. His last name.

2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?

3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?

1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my mom eats a lot

2. She got too old to do anything else with him.

3. My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?

1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.

2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.

3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms and dads?

1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.

2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.

3. Dads are taller and stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friends.

4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?

1. Mothers don't do spare time.

2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?

1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.

2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.

2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it not me.

3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

A TRUE LOVE STORY...............

I don't watch American Idol regularly. I did watch every episode of the first season, but have only caught up with each additional season watching the famous clips here and there. This one made me cry like a baby....might be hormones from pregnancy, but what a beautiful and touching story. I know who I'm rooting for. Go Chris!

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS..,.

For a fun afternoon snack this week I gave the boys Pop Rocks. These were my absolute favorite candy when I was a little girl, and they are extremely hard to find these days. Silas was so excited, he kept jumping up and down and saying, "I luff pock wops mom. Tanks fo my pock wops mom, tanks so much!"

We were in the van driving down the road and out of the clear blue Logan asks, "Mom, when you die can I have the van?"

Uncle Mike got a new tattoo this week in honor of his son Talon. Over lunch one days Silas says to me, "Mom can I get a tactoo? I wan a tactoo wight heo", as he points to his right elbow!

We came out of the house one evening to drive to Alpine to see the family and there were some big, dark storm clouds hanging right above us. Logan says, "Wow, mom look! Look at the size of that cumulonimbus".....a huh? I promise he doesn't get his science smarts from me.

RECAP OF SUMMER.

I found some pictures from last summer. Better late than never.

The boys lived in the sprinklers! Clothes on..............
or clothes off!
On days it was too hot to play outside..................
we played hide n' seek. The boys used their imagination quite a bit. It's not an envelope, it's a crown!

Yes Silas is in his diaper, again! Just call him the streak...

GOODBYE'S THE SADDEST WORD

On Friday morning Jason had quite a shock at work. A sweet lady who works in his office, Whitney, collapsed in front of the elevator due to a massive stroke. She was very young, early fifties. They began CPR until the paramedics arrived. She suffered severe bleeding in her brain that couldn't be stopped and was declared brain dead Friday afternoon. Her children had the unfortunate responsibility to take her off life support, so she passed away Friday evening. What a heart-breaking choice for a child to make. It was so very sad, tragic. Hard to believe that her life is over. I can't help but wonder how much time I have left with my own children? How have I impacted their lives and built their character by our relationship? Have I loved them enough, taught them enough? My heart goes out to her children and family. It was a weekend of great contemplation for me. I picked up my own mother from the airport yesterday for a 10 day stay. She's visiting from OR and she's here to see her new grand babies, Kleyton and Tallon. It's hard to believe that while one family can be suffering so, another is celebrating. I held my mother yesterday and wondered how I could ever face a life without her. I love the song, "Goodbye's The Saddest Word" from Celine Dion. It's on my mind today. To some the song is sad, but to me they are such uplifting, poetic lyrics about hope and the unbreakable bond of love. It's how we as individuals are changed through the life we have been given by the love, care and nurturing of our mother. It's about the special relationship between a mother and her child, one that can never be duplicated, substituted or broken, even by death. I am so thankful that I have had the opportunity to be sealed to my family for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple through the power of the Melchizedek Priesthood. What is bound on earth is bound in heaven. What a comforting promise. I know that if I live my life to the best of my ability, if I sacrifice temporal things for spiritual things and exemplify my Savior with all my heart, my family is mine, forever.

GOODBYE'S THE SADDEST WORD
Mamma
You gave life to me
Turned a baby into a lady

Mamma
All you had to offer
Was the promise of a lifetime of love

Now I know
There is no other
Love like a mother's love for her child

And I know
A love so complete
Someday must leave
Must say goodbye

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

Mamma
You gave love to me
Turned a young one into a woman

Mamma
All I ever needed
Was a guarantee of you loving me

'Cause I know
There is no other
Love like a mother's love for her child

And it hurts so
That something so strong
Someday will be gone, must say goodbye

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

But the love you gave me will always live
You'll always be there every time I fall
You are to me the greatest love of all
You take my weakness and you make me strong
And I will always love you 'til forever comes

And when you need me
I'll be there for you always
I'll be there your whole life through
I'll be there this I promise you, Mamma

Mamma, I'll be
I'll be your beacon through the darkest nights
I'll be the wings that guide your broken flight
I'll be your shelter through the raging storm
And I will love you 'till forever comes

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

'Till we meet again...
Until then...
Goodbye

THE BOOK AND THE ROSE

From Netflix: When handsome teacher John Barnes (Chris Kennedy) discovers an antique edition of Anna Karenina that's filled with scribbled notes of random thoughts and musings, he decides to begin a correspondence with the previous owner of the volume. What transpires is a touching love story for the ages. Set in the 1940s, this award-winning short is based on "The People with the Roses," a short story by Max Lucado.

Today I had the rare opportunity to have a few hours of time to myself. Jason took the boys to a movie and accidentally left the T.V. on in the living room. I was on the computer when they left and headed to the kitchen to do dishes a few minutes later. As I began to unload the dishwasher, a short movie had just started on BYUTV. I was getting ready to walk over and turn off the T.V. (I value silence these days), when I began to recognize the storyline. It was based upon a short story called The Pen Pal. I received this story from a friend through email back in 1997.
I have never forgotten the story because the message is so poignant and beautiful. Needless to say, I rushed into the living room to sit down and watch the 30 minute short. The movie was called The Book and the Rose, and although names and places were changed, the theme and moral were the same. The movie was truly wonderful. I went online to find it, and it can currently be rented on Netflix. So, if you are looking for a sweet, uplifting love story, and have 30 minutes to spare, you MUST watch it. I posted the original short story below.

The Pen Pal

John Blanchard stood up from the bench, straightened his Army uniform, and studied the crowd of people making their way through Grand Central Station. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn't, the girl with the rose. His interest in her had begun thirteen months before in a Florida library.

Taking a book off the shelf he found himself intrigued, not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin. The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the previous owner's name, Miss Hollis Maynell. With time and effort he located her address. She lived in New York City. He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to correspond. The next day he was shipped overseas for service in World War II.

During the next year and one month the two grew to know each other through the mail. Each letter was a seed falling on a fertile heart. A romance was budding. Blanchard requested a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn't matter what she looked like.

When the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their first meeting - 7:00 PM at the Grand Central Station in New York. "You'll recognize me," she wrote, "by the red rose I'll be wearing on my lapel."

So at 7:00 he was in the station looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but whose face he'd never seen. I'll let Mr. Blanchard tell you what happened:

A young woman was coming toward me, her figure long and slim. Her blonde hair lay back in curls from her delicate ears; her eyes were blue as flowers. Her lips and chin had a gentle firmness, and in her pale green suit she was like springtime come alive. I started toward her, entirely forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose.

As I moved, a small, provocative smile curved her lips. "Going my way, sailor?" she murmured. Almost uncontrollably I made one step closer to her, and then I saw Hollis Maynell. She was standing almost directly behind the girl. A woman well past 40, she had graying hair tucked under a worn hat. She was more than plump, her thick-ankled feet thrust into low-heeled shoes.

The girl in the green suit was walking quickly away. I felt as though I was split in two, so keen was my desire to follow her, and yet so deep was my longing for the woman whose spirit had truly companioned me and upheld my own. And there she stood. Her pale, plump face was gentle and sensible, her gray eyes had a warm and kindly twinkle. I did not hesitate. My fingers gripped the small worn blue leather copy of the book that was to identify me to her.

This would not be love, but it would be something precious, something perhaps even better than love, a friendship for which I had been and must ever be grateful.

I squared my shoulders and saluted and held out the book to the woman, even though while I spoke I felt choked by the bitterness of my disappointment. "I'm Lieutenant John Blanchard, and you must be Miss Maynell. I am so glad you could meet me; may I take you to dinner?"

The woman's face broadened into a tolerant smile. "I don't know what this is about, son," she answered, "but the young lady in the green suit who just went by, she begged me to wear this rose on my coat. And she said if you were to introduce yourself to me, I should tell you that she is waiting for you in the big restaurant across the street. She said it was some kind of test!"

It's not difficult to understand and admire Miss Maynell's wisdom. The true nature of a heart is seen in its response to the unattractive.

AMY'S CLONE WARS! HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE SYRUP

I'm always looking for ways to save money, save time, and make meals and treats for my family as healthy as possible. Since I've done the leg work, I've decided to share some recipes I've been using for many years now. These are easy homemade recipes for everyday products you might use and buy from the store. This week I'm spotlighting CHOCOLATE SYRUP.
Nearly every super market on the planet has their own version. And don't forget about Hershey's, the classic that mom used to make my chocolate milk with as a little girl. It's not entirely expensive either, so why bother to make it from scratch? Why buy it when it's full of preservatives and ingredients you can't even pronounce and it's simple and inexpensive to make. Think of it. You are at this very moment, only 3 ingredients and 7 minutes away from decadent chocolate bliss, and although it's sugar and cocoa, it's healthier than a product with a shelf life....and it wasn't made in a factory in Taiwan!
RECIPE:
1/2 c cocoa
1 cup sugar
1 c water
1/2 tsp vanilla
I double this recipe when I make it. Mix sugar and cocoa in a heavy saucepan. Over medium heat add water and stir until smooth. Increase heat to med/high and continue to stir until it begins to boil (about 5 minutes). Once boiling, stir constantly and boil for 2 minutes then take off heat and continue to stir until it stops boiling. Once it is cool, pour into a container and refrigerate (I use an empty ketchup bottle). Use in anything as you would Hershey's chocolate syrup. Great in milk, or on ice cream, or just a spoonful!

CINNAMON ROLLS

On Wednesday my SIL Taska came over and we made Cinnamon rolls. It's her recipe, and they were delicious. I think that I didn't have my milk quite warm enough for the yeast, and I also rolled them out a little too thin, so they weren't as big and fluffy as I like, but they were still beautiful...and yummy, yummy, yummy! I am a bread-a-holic, no doubt about that! The frosting was really good too. It had less cream cheese in this recipe that I normally use, and I think I liked it better. Here is the recipe:
CINNAMON ROLLS
1 c warm milk
1 1/4 oz. packet yeast (we didn't have a packet, so we used 2TB + 2 1/4 tsp)
2 eggs
1/3 c melted butter
1/2 c sugar
1 tsp salt
4 c flour
1/2 c softened butter
1 c dark brown sugar
3 TB cinnamon
chopped nuts, raisins, etc.
Dissolve yeast in warm milk. Once yeast has dissolved, about 5 minutes, add it to the bowl of a heavy duty mixer then add the sugar and mix on low. While it is still mixing, add the eggs then the melted butter. Once mixed well add the salt and flour one cup at a time. Mix until the dough is no longer stuck to the sides of the bowl. **If you mix too long the bread will be tough. Once the dough is done place in a lightly floured bowl, cover and set in a warm place to let rise double in size (about an hour or so). While dough is rising mix dark brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, and soften 1/2 c butter to room temperature. Once dough has risen, roll out into a rectangle on a floured surface between 1/4 and 1/2" thick. Spread 1/2 c softened butter the entire area of dough, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-brown sugar mixture, chopped nuts and/or raisins. For large cinnamon rolls roll the dough from the shortest side to shortest side, for smaller rolls, roll from longest side to longest side. I used a string to cut the rolls in about a 1 1/2" inch size. Place on a lightly greased baking pan, cover and set in a warm place to rise again for 30-45 min. When ready, bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

FROSTING
1/2 c softened butter
2 oz. softened cream cheese
1 1/2 c powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

LOGAN, THE COP!

Logan brought home a short little sentence he wrote at school about what he wants to be when he grows up. He also drew a picture as well, and it's just priceless. Here is how he wrote it:
wen I gro up I. wanto Be a cop

WE'RE HAVING A GIRL!!

Yesterday I had my 20 week ultrasound. Things have come a long way since my last ultrasound almost 4 years ago. Instead of a small little monitor near the ultrasound computer, there was a 42" inch flat screen TV mounted up on the wall in plain view for everyone to see. That was very helpful since there was Jason, Silas, Taska (my SIL), and her two kids Zailee and Hatcher in the room to watch as well. With this pregnancy I went ahead and had my blood drawn at 17 weeks to check for major genetic abnormalities. It was confirmed last week that the baby was healthy, so there wasn't the same worry or concern with this ultrasound as there were with my first two since I already knew that everything was okay. It was fun to sit back, relax and be in complete awe that I was watching this miracle of life moving around inside me. A few minutes into the ultrasound the tech got a very good picture of two little buttocks and asked if we wanted to know the gender. Here's the pic:

It was exciting to find out it's a girl, just because she's the first. What will she look like? What will her spirit and personality be? It's not that I wanted a girl more than a boy, because I know deep in my heart that I have nothing to do with what I'm given, these babies come as they are from Heavenly Father.
She's very active and we got several good views of her from the side (she has Silas' nose and profile). She did have her hands in her face quite a bit and it looked like she was sucking her fingers at one point. She did face us once, but only for a few seconds and unfortunately we never got a picture.
She is already such a special little spirit, and I'm so glad to be able to name her after my sister Kresta. I'm trying to decide on her middle name. Either Yvonne, which is the middle name of Jason's mother Brenda or Raelee. Raelee is in honor of two very dear friends and sisters I grew up with, Jaime Rae and Joanna Lee. I posted a couple short videos of her moving. The second one had Silas laughing pretty hard. He said, "She's hittin you mom, see her, she's puching."
When Logan returned home from school I told him that I had the ultrasound earlier to see if the baby was a little boy or a girl. He was very anxious, he was smiling and wringing his fingers. I said, "What do you think we are having?" He shrugged his shoulders then he asked, "Well, mom is it a brother or a sister?" When I told him it was a sister he said "Yes!" then he turned to his cousin Zailee and he said, "Did you hear that Zailee, it's a girl, I'm going to have a little sister!" This morning Silas crawled into my lap and put his arms around me and said, "I can't wait to see baby Kwesta, and to hode hoe!" There is no doubt that they already love her, and that they will be wonderful big brothers!

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS.....

Silas has re-grown quite an attachment to Logan's "Little Foot" stuffed dinosaur. He doesn't remember, but when he was about 16 months old he drug that thing everywhere! The other night after we said our prayers, I bent over to give him a kiss and he suddenly remembered he didn't have Little Foot. "Mom, mom, weo es pillow foot. I fogot him Mom! I need to find my pillow foot, I can't seep wiffout him!"

A few days ago I was preparing Silas for a bath. The tub was filling with water and I was stripping him down when he very quietly whispers in my ear, "Mom, pwomise me sumtin." I laughed and said "Okay, what do you want me to promise." He then said, with a little impatience in his voice "Dus pwomise me fost mom and Io tew you." I then replied, "Siley, I can't promise you anything without knowing what it is first, so tell me what you want me to promise." Very quietly he says, "Pwomise me you won't get mad at me when I poop in the tub."...What!

I was getting Silas ready for bed one night, and as I was putting his pj's on he says, "OOOhhh mom, yew hands awe fweezin!" I said, "Sorry buddy". He then pats my cheek and says, "Dats okay mom, I still love yew anyway."

NORTH AND SOUTH...........

Hello, I'm Amy and I'm a closet romantic. There, I've said it! Not many know this about me, but it's true. I admit that in my youth (and maybe just last week) I day-dreamed about a tall, dark and mysterious man to ride up on his horse and sweep me off my feet (Willoughby...Sense and Sensibility). All of this of course, pre-marriage, before kids.....and loads of dishes, bills, poopy diapers and piles of laundry. A Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights, Ralph Fiennes), or Edward Rochester (Jane Eyre, Toby Stephens) or Mark Darcy (Pride & Prejudice, Colin Firth). Okay, back to reality....I already have a great man! I'm lucky and I know it. He's amazing, and helpful and sweet and sexy and he loves me without make-up, 30 lbs overweight, even though I sometimes don't have dinner when he gets home and in spite of the fact that I can be a complete clutz......now that's what I call true love (but a girl can still dream!) So I officially have a new candidate for my list: John Thornton of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. Wow! This BBC miniseries gives Pride and Prejudice a run for it's money. In fact, it trumps it for now as my favorite. If you have not seen it, you must watch it. You must I tell you! Today, as soon as possible. Rent it from your local Library, or through netflix.com. It's amazing.

OUR NEW ARRIVAL TO THE FAMILY, MY NEPHEW TALLON SANDBERG

It's been a big month for my family! Both my younger brothers welcomed new babies. Let me introduce you to Michael's son Tallon, who was born in Evanston, WY on Sunday January 10th at 1:50 am. He weighed 5 lbs 10 oz and was 18 1/2" long. He was born a month early, as was Kleyton.

Here is daddy with his sweet little man.
Here is big brother Carter. What a tender picture!
It amazes me how the Whitby genes are so dominant! He looks just like Mike and Carter's baby pics even though each have different mothers.
Ohhh! I just want to cuddle him. Look at that poor little face. Kisses, kisses.
Even though he's a month early his lungs are working just fine!
I can't wait to see him. I'm so glad he's here and that I get to be his Auntie. It's amazing how you can love someone so much and you've never even held them.

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS.................

Silas says to me, "Mom, can we go to Cohens house to play, PEAS!! I pwomise not to hit him."

We were at Costco and there was a truck inside with a license plate that said, "2SAV". Logan comes up to me and says, "Mom, Costco doesn't know how to spell save. They left the E off." LOL

I was cleaning up the table after breakfast one morning and Silas comes up to me and very seriously says, "Mom, yew know I luff everyone. I luff Jesus and I luff you!"...melt my heart!

We were reading family scriptures about the tower of Babel and asked the boys if we really could build stairs that went all the way to heaven. Logan looked at us like we were really dumb and he said, "No, cuz as they climbed up higher they would freeze like this...." then he froze his body and acted like it shattered. Where does he get this stuff!

After tucking Silas into bed one night, he says to me as I'm turning off his light, "Mom, there's nothing to be afraid of, huh?" I said, "That's right honey, and why is that?" I expected him to say something like, mommy and daddy love me or there are no such things as monsters. Instead he says, "Cuz my mommy has a gun!" Crack me up! He's right, I sleep with a loaded 9mm and 12ga within arms reach. It's comforting to know that my children trust me to keep them safe.

MEDIUM.....MAY YOU NEVER GO OFF THE AIR!

I love the T.V. show Medium! Probably because the lead is a woman; a wife and mom who has lots of spunk and real curves (she's not pencil thin with perfect hair and makeup!) I know the day is coming when the show will be canceled since it's now in it's 7th season and it changed affiliates last year. I already curse and mourn this day for I know that I will curl up in a ball on the couch and cry like a baby! It's by far one of the best shows on television. It never gets old and each week it's a different story. It's a thriller with a twist, throw in a good who-dun-it, stir in some mystery, add a little crime scene investigation sprinkled with a ghost here and there and you have the recipe for a top notch show! I think what I like most about the show is that it's honest about life; the occasional marital argument, messy house, parents who both work, crazy in-laws, quarreling children, and a heroine who isn't perfect but has a good heart and gives her best, but sometimes fails. Any woman can relate!

TOAD IN THE HOLE..........

When Logan was 2 years old, Auntie Di (my best friend) made him a Toad In The Hole for breakfast. Apparently it was something very special her mom made for her when she was a little girl. Logan loved it! Ever since then it's been the favorite way to eat eggs at my house.

Step 1: Heat a non-stick skillet on the stove over med-high heat. Meanwhile, cute a hole out of a piece of bread.

Step 2: Butter both sides of toast and hole and place in a skillet.
Step 3: Crack egg into a small bowl (I always do this to make sure the eggs are fresh).
Step 4: Place a dot of butter in center of hole, and pour in egg.
Step 5 : Cook until egg under yolk turns white, then flip.
Step 6: Cook the other side until the egg is done then enjoy your Toad In The Hole. We dip the hole in the soft yolk of the Toad (sounds gross) or you can put jam on the hole...eat it however you want too.

MY TOP 10 OF 2010

Finding out that I'm going to be an aunt again...from my youngest two brothers, and that their baby boys are both due on the same day!

Enjoying my first helicopter ride with Jason and the boys. It was a thrill! Incredible, exciting, and a little scary.

Having mom come and visit for two weeks and getting all my family together. I miss everyone and wish we could be together all the time.

Logans' 6th birthday! I love to Celebrate his life.

Spending a week in Irrigon in August visiting the great women in my life; my Mom, Aunt Francie, Grandma Kelley, Lara, Shana, Molly and all the second cousins.

Logan starting First Grade. It's sad to me that he's growing so fast, where have the last six years gone. But it's good to see that he's growing into a kind, polite and gentle young man. He loves school, has lots of friends and he's so very smart!

Oregon coast vacation with Jason and the boys. Lincoln City, Long Beach, Astoria......I can still smell the ocean, hear the waves, and feel the sand between my toes.

Silas' 3rd birthday! What would my life be like without him? Peaceful....quite....and completely boring. He brought color to our lives. I still can't believe he lived to celebrate another birthday. This child scares me to death. He's a wild man and I need to keep him on a short leash.

Finding out that I'm having another baby! Joy, pure joy, mixed in with a little anxiety and worry that everything will go smoothly with the pregnancy. But in the end I'm comforted to know that Heavenly Father hears my prayers and knows the desires of my heart. I can't wait to meet this little human being.

Logan playing soccer. It doesn't matter that we spent half the games laughing, not at him....entirely, really. It was just fun to see him running around having a good time.

PLAYING HIDE N' SEEK WITH CAPITAIN AMERICA!

"I'm Cappen America! Dis es my sealed an my gun."

He jumps up on the couch to dramatize how he's a superhero.
"I would save you mom, I would!"

Captain America and I then start our adventure to find Logan, I mean The Hulk, since he's hiding from bad guys and Captain America needs to save him.

Pretty good spot I'd say. It was taking me too long to find him, so he finally popped out before he passed out! I never would have thought to look in there. Seriously, kids are limber! No fair.

MEET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY!

Shranda holding her little miracle!

After over 24 hours of labor, a blood clot that went to Shranda's lung and an emergency C-Section, Kleyton Leo Whitby made his arrival yesterday, January 6th at 6 pm, born in American Fork, UT at 35 1/2 weeks and weighing 6 lbs. 15 oz and measuring 19" long. It's sobering to think that Shranda and Kleyton would have died over two months ago is she'd lived even 60 years ago due to her blood clotting problems. She's been on heavy duty blood thinners nearly the entire last trimester. Her water broke at 2:30 pm on Wednesday. Because of the blood thinners they couldn't give her an epidural or do a c-section immediately or she would have bled to death. They had to wait as long as they possibly could, poor girl! She finally started having chest pains at 5:30 due to a clot in her lung, so they inserted an umbrella like device in her neck to catch blood clots and performed an emergency c-section. She sure went through a lot to bring him into this world. I'm happy to say that everybody is doing fine now. What a blessing! Kleyton is healthy as an ox and mom will be getting out of ICU today.

My baby brother and his sweet baby. Matthew, the proud daddy!I can't wait until I can hold you Kleyton! My boys have been sick, so it will be a week or so before I will get to snuggle him. I'm so glad he's in my life and I look forward to getting to know this little man. Just think, another life to make an impact on this great big world. Think of all the possibilities.
(He looks so much like Matthew's baby pic)
