Insightful Vinyl For The Week
"Don’t be gloomy. Do not dwell on unkind things. Stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. Even if you are not happy, put a smile on your face. “Accentuate the positive.” Look a little deeper for the good. Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, with great and strong purpose in your heart. Love life.” ~ Gordon B. Hinckley

FUNNY THING THE KIDS SAID THIS WEEK.................

I was in the kitchen making dinner and was getting very irritated at a fly buzzing around. Logan overheard my frustration and said, "Mom, why don't you let me get that fly for you. Where's the fly swapper." hahaha

I was sitting on the couch and Silas comes walking up to me carrying his toy doctor bag in his hand. "Let me look atchew mom. You need west, you tiyod!" Then he reached down into his bag, stopped and turned and said, "Now, dese awe mine. Yew don touchem. Dey vewy spensive. I bought dem in da playwoom." Then he continued rummagng through his bag and grabbed the stethescope then put it around his ears against my chest and said, "I lissen to yew hawt." He listened for a minute and as he was listening, I began tapping on the back of the stethescope to imitate a heartbeat, dum dumm, dum dumm. When he started to hear the tapping, he wrinkled his brow, then squinted his eyes for a minute, then opened his eyes really big and said, "Uh oh. We hafe a vewy sewious pwobwom mom. Don soun good. You got a wabbit in you Mom, a vewy teeny, tiny wabbit jumpen awound. Heo take dis mecine in yew mouf", as he was shoving a thermometer down my throat. Then he said, "Let me look atchew eyes, an eaws....good,..look good. Now open yew mouf vewy beeg, okay.....huh...hey mom, whats dat hangen tingy in da back of yew mouf? Yew go sumten stuck?"

Logan came home from school on Tuesday and said, "We had such a good lunch today. It was my favorite, pasgetti."

I had given the kids a granola bar earlier in the day as a snack, and at mid-afternoon Carter asks, "Auntie Amy can I have another famola bar?" Logan overheard him ask, and very haughtily tried to correct him, "You mean a granilla bar Carter?"....LOL

AMY'S QUICK & EASY BRAZILLIAN LIMEADE!

So I love Brazillian limeade. What can I say, I'm Portuguese and we like sour things! I've made limeade for years from scratch, blending limes, boiling cream and sugar, etc. Well I decided to try and create a quick and easy recipe for the summer, and here it is!! It's just as good as my homemade, with zero work! Instant deliciousness, serve ice cold in a glass...you'll feel like you're on vacation! Make it according to my recipe, and you can add more water if you like it less sweet, but in my opinion it's the perfect combo of sweet and sour.

4 quarts water (1 gallon)

2 frozen cans limeade

1 can sweetened condensed milk

Mix really, really well and chill. Serve over ice. Delicioso!!
Silas, who is the hardest critic when it comes to food, adores this limeade!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KRESTA!

I wish I could have just 15 minutes with my sister today to celebrate her 39th birthday. I know she's here with me and has been with me all these years, but I'd like to see her, hear her voice again, and hold her. I'd like to introduce her to Jason and my sweet boys, especially since Silas reminds me so much of her for some reason. She was born a fighter, with a strong spirit and a stubborn nature. She came into this world on her own terms, 3 months early. She was given no chance of survival at birth, but she lived against all odds to survive open heart surgery at age one in 1972. I've wondered over the years why she was spared so young, only to die so young at only 20 years old. But I know the answer. She was like a fire, and she changed all of our lives with her warmth and light. She was a daughter, a big sister, a best friend. She was 5 ft 11 inches and breathtakingly beautiful with porcelain skin, golden light brown hair and blue eyes. She had a crooked smile and a warm, deep laugh that made me feel safe. She was a Rodeo Queen, and a goddess on a horse. She was a big hair 80's rocker who introduced me to GNR, Cinderella, Scorpions, Judas Priest and AC/DC. I still think of her every time I hear Sweet Child O' Mine. She was courageous, passionate and adventurous. She loved carrot cake and vanilla ice cream, the beach, and horses. She loved native Indian culture, and wished she could have been born an Indian to roam the plains a hundred years ago. She had a big heart, was kind to everyone and always made me feel special. She was the coolest, funnest, greatest big sister to ever walk the planet. She let me tag along even when I was a scrawny pre-teen who was all knees and elbows. She let me stay up late and eat junk food. She bought me jewelery and my own pack of big red chewing gum. She did my hair and taught me how to wear makeup as well how to play poker using m&m's for ante. She let me try on her clothes, high heels and wear her Obsession perfume. She gave me advice about boys, gave me the courage to have my first "real" kiss, and showed me how to properly stuff my bra. She shared all her secrets and told me all about life on her own. We talked of starting a female rock band where she would be lead singer and I would play electric guitar. We were going to buy our homes next to each other. She dreamed of owning her own ranch and she was going to teach my children to ride horses, and maybe, just maybe, teach me to barrel race. She was my angel. The one I always told EVERYTHING to, even my deepest, darkest secrets. She left my life way too soon, taken from me in a car accident when I was 16.

I still miss you as much today as the day you left almost 19 years ago. You are one of the reasons I try to live my life to best of my ability because I know I will see you again. My greatest prayer is that I will have a daughter to bear your strong and beautiful name. I remember you Kresta. I carry you with me everyday. I imagine you in heaven, riding hellbent for leather across a vast prairie covered in wildflowers, beneath the Rocky Mountains, bareback on a wild mustang with your hair, a golden flag waving in the wind behind you. Ride that wind, Kresta. Ride the Wind until me meet again. Sister, I miss you.

Here she is, only 2 weeks old. She was born at 28 weeks, and was such a fighter.

KIDS SAY THE DARNDEST THINGS.......

Logan and I were discussing how important it is to turn off the lights to save power. He said, "The sun never turns off, huh Mom. It has a super light bulb inside and it stays on for a thousand fifty hundred years."

Logan and Carter were playing frisbee outside and Logan said, "Here Carter, run over there and I will pass the whitby to you." LOL

Logan, Carter and Silas were playing outside one afternoon when all of a sudden they all started screaming. I went outside to see what all the camotion was about and Silas runs up to me as I opened the door and with his eyes big and wide he says in a panic, "Mom, ets rainen ice coobs, beg ice coobs Mooaawwm." This is the second time in a month that we have had hail!
